Board Member
Marc D. Bassewitz, 53, is currently Vice President and General Counsel of William Harris Investors, Inc., a registered investment adviser that also serves as the family office of the Irving Harris family. Prior to joining William Harris Investors in 2009, Marc was the Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Bally Total Fitness in Chicago. Marc began his legal career in private practice with Latham & Watkins, LLP, where he was an associate and partner for 22 years with a focus on corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions and corporate counseling in the firm’s Chicago and New York offices.
Marc recently completed six years as a JDRF Illinois Board member, including two years as the Chapter’s President, three years as Chair of the Major Donor Committee and one year as Chair of the Stewardship Committee. He began his second term as a JDRF Illinois Board member in June 2010. Marc has also served for several years on a variety of committees and working groups for JDRF International, including the Major Donor Committee and the Chapter Services Working Group.
Marc received B.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He and his wife Sheri have both been active in JDRF in New York and Chicago since their daughter Julia was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1992.
